We Know Love by This
We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us —
and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods
and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?
Let us love not in word or speech, but in
truth and action.
- 1 John 3:18
You tell me
you love me like pomegranate
and I take
you to the fruiting tree to pluck one
You tell me
you love me with silky words
and I spin
you thread and weave a shawl to wrap you
You speak to
me about romance and what once warmed you
and I chop
the wood and kindle the fire
You say you
love certain words like cantaloupe
and I cube
the melon for your breakfast
You tell me
love is in the ether and cannot be pointed to
and I frame
the house that contains it
You tell me
you are dying to love me more but don’t know how
and I lay
down my life for you so that you can
